School Community Councils & Elections
Community Council Elections will be held at ALL Millard School District schools on the day previous to school, August 16th, as well as the first three days of school, August 17, 18, and 19. All parents are invited and encouraged to serve on community councils in the schools where their students attend.
All schools will have at least two (2) parent seats open for election. To be considered as a candidate for a seat, please contact the office of your school on or before Monday, the 17th of August. Interested and eligible candidates will be listed on the ballots for selection by parents of students attending the school. To contact your school, please use the following telephone numbers:
All parents of a student who is enrolled in the particular school are eligible to vote in the elections. Please go to the school office to cast your votes.
Responsibilities of the Community Council are listed below:
Each school community council shall advise and make recommendations to the school, school district administrators, and the local school board regarding the school and its programs, school district programs, and other issues relating to the community environment for students. Principals shall report activities and progress of the school community council to the Board of Education on a periodic basis.
Each school community council shall also:
1. Develop a school improvement plan;
2. Develop a School LAND (Learning And Nurturing Development) Trust Program for the school;
3. Assist in the development and implementation of a staff professional development plan.
In addition, each school community council for an elementary school with grades K-3 shall develop a reading achievement plan. We encourage you to assist in our schools by getting involved in your School Community Council!!!
